FIDM Orange County 2015 Open House: Nick Verreos "Special Appearance"--FIDM Orange County

This past weekend, I went to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM Orange County campus for their Open House event. As a proud graduate of FIDM and the college's Official Spokesperson, I LOVE visiting the FIDM campuses especially during their great "3 Days of Fashion" Summer programs and Open Houses.

The FIDM Open House is a day-long event geared for high school (as well as post-graduate) individuals interested in a career in Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Product Development, as well as all the other majors offered by FIDM. It's a way to "get to know" the college, it's instructors/faculty, alumni, and facilities. Speaking of facilities, check out these from the FIDM OC campus:

Computer Lab Fab: FIDM Orange County 2015 Open House

Student Projects: These are samples of student projects from the FIDM OC 2015 Open House--FIDM Orange County

Chairing Styles: There's a wonderful display of Chairing Styles, a unique collaboration of 30 students; 10 Textile Design, 10 Fashion Design and 10 Interior Design. The students are paired in teams of three to create a collaboration and an end product that is quite unique. A Textile Designer creates the textile. A Fashion Designer uses that textile to create a dress. An Interior Designer uses that same textile to design a chair. Some of this year's "Chairing Styles" designs are on display at the FIDM Orange County campus

To finish my FIDM DEBUT 2015 blog recaps, it's time for last Saturday night's fabulous FIDM DEBUT 2015 Los Angeles Fashion Gala, a black tie fundraiser befitting the FIDM Scholarship Foundation. Both myself and my better half--David Paul--were invited to attend this wonderful runway show. The FIDM DEBUT Runway Show showcases designs by graduating students in the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study Programs as well as work from Interior Design and Textile Design Students. The show is the culmination of over 50 weeks of mentorship and thousands of studio hours featuring the "creme de la creme" of FIDM.

Cuff Link Chic: I decided to wear these cuff links that my mom sent me that were a gift to my dad (from her) when they lived in Caracas Venezuela while my dad was a U.S. Diplomat residing in Venezuela. The cuff links are jade and pearl and are from the Orinoco Joyeria (Jeweler) in Caracas and from the late 60's.

Fancy Place Setting: For the FIDM DEBUT 2015 L.A. Fashion Gala, Barker Hangar is transformed into more "ballroom"-like setting, with tables and gilded chairs more fit for the black tie-and-cocktail dressed guests. The tables surround the super-long runway stage. There is a delicious dinner served prior to the FIDM DEBUT Runway Show followed by dessert and coffee.

Nick Verreos and FIDM Fashion Design Program Director Mary Stephens: Before the FIDM runway Show--and while guests are having their dinner--I had the honor--along with FIDM Fashion Design Program Director Mary Stephens--of presenting the FIDM Scholarships to next year's group of DEBUT graduates. Mary Stephens guided and mentored me back when I was a FIDM DEBUT student so like I said, it's always an honor to be invited by her to co-present these important scholarships.

NIKOLAKI Trophy Gals: When handing out the FIDM DEBUT Scholarships, Mary and I had our very own "Trophy Models" a la The Academy Awards. These models all wore gowns from my NIKOLAKI line--Photo above: Nick Verreos th models Thais, Lisa and Katrina in NIKOLAKI gowns (L to R: rhasberry colored silk satin organza one shoulder ball gown; teal green silk duchesse satin gown with jeweled trim; grape colored silk chiffon beaded column gown).

Last Thursday and Friday, I had the pleasure (and REALLY FUN time!) of MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows. FIDM's annual DEBUT Runway Show attracts nearly 10,000 people over three days and features designs by graduating students in FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as work from Interior Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design students. The extravaganza concludes on the third night with the DEBUT Runway Show & Gala, a scholarship fundraising event attended by industry notables, FIDM Alumni, and fashion celebrities.

For the last several years, DEBUT has been held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. I was so excited to MC the FIDM DEBUT Runway show once again...

NV Nick Verreos for EVINE Live Shopping Network Runway Debut: During both nights of hosting the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows on Thursday and Friday, I also had the honor of "debuting" designs from my upcoming NV Nick Verreos line EXCLUSIVE to the EVINE Live Shopping Network!

I showed a printed twist-knot draped asymmetrical jersey dress worn by Michelle as well as a "Moto" black and white jacket, black jersey top and black jersey track pants--worn by model Katrina Hunter--that will be part of my launch on Saturday May 30th on EVINE Live! Sooooo TUNE IN May 30th!!
